Testing Your Home for Radon Levels

Every home has radon. It is only those with a level over 4.0 picocuries per liter (pCi/L) that need to be addressed immediately to prevent known health hazards, such as lung cancer.

Although the market is saturated with self testing kits, only a professional knows fully and will adhere to the strict EPA protocol which will assure you accurate results. A1 Property Service is a licensed and certified as a Radon Measurement Technician.

 Strict EPA Protocol

Radon testing is performed on air samples taken in a single room of the property being tested. You do not have to evacuate the premises, merely maintain "no entry" to the selected room for 48 hours while the test is being performed.

The number of air samples to be taken depends on the propertie's (habitable space) square footage. Placement of the air sampling canisters is strictly regulated by the EPA for maximum accuracy.

Your Results & Radon Gas Remediation

Once the 48 hours is up the air sampling canisters are taken to an EPA approved laboratory for evaluation - generally 3 days.

The results of the testing performed on the canisters will be sent to you via email or fax. If the lab results test positive for picocuries levels over 4.0 we will also supply to you a list of three Radon Gas Remediation companies, which you can then choose from, who can help to resolve your Radon problem by lowering your Radon to acceptable EPA levels.

 Report Forms for Mandatory Testing

Facilities testing for radon must submit their radon measurements to the Bureau of Facility Programs, Radon and Indoor Air Quality Section on one of the forms below. The appropriate form depends on the type of building being tested. A facility built and used as a home (single family homes or apartments used as foster homes, ALF's in houses or family day care homes) reports its measurements on Form 1778. Measurements made in commercially built buildings and buildings no longer lived in as homes are reported on Form 1777 (commercial day care centers in converted houses, hospitals or schools).

All forms in PDF format
